Valentine’s Day is the third-largest consumer holiday in the U.S., with lovesick shoppers shelling out more than $18 billion per year in Cupid’s name. So whether you love or hate his holiday, there’s no denying St. Valentine’s impact on the economy.

With that in mind, WalletHub analyzed the different sides of Valentine’s Day in the hopes of helping people embrace their loving feelings without hurting their wallets. At the very least, seeing what people do (or don’t do) in the name of love and how much they spend in the process should make the day a bit more enjoyable.
